Light pollution increases every year in Central Oregon.

Since the city's outdoor lighting ordinance was last written, LED lights have been invented and Bend's population has nearly doubled. The code hasn't been able to keep pace, and neither has awareness of just how much is being lost to sleep, to wildlife, and to the simple experience of looking up and seeing a sky full of stars.

Unlike most forms of pollution, light pollution has an off switch.

Three ways we work

• Policy — Working with city and county officials to push for safe, modernized outdoor lighting ordinances that reflect current science.
• Education — Helping neighbors and businesses understand and fix light trespass before it becomes an issue.
• Advocacy — Building the case for dark sky recognition for Bend and joining our neighbors in Sisters and Sunriver as Dark Sky International Certified places.
